Today I was listening to a radio program called Search Engine, and the host, Jesse Brown, was talking to the President and CEO, of RushmoreDrive, Johnny Taylor.

Cyber School in Saskatchewan!?

The rationale for exploring this method of educational delivery was that the Cyber School learning fostered diverse ways of acquiring knowledge. The organization of the courses permitted students to dictate their rate of study. The Cyber School course offerings enhanced students’ program selections. Students who temporarily relocated with their families were still able to take courses through the Saskatoon Catholic School Division. Home-schooled students were able to expand their educational opportunities. Advanced students in grade eight were able to study courses, which were at their academic level.

The greatest advantages of distance education via the S.C.C.S. process has been that smaller Rural schools with one or two students requesting a course can fulfill the request by having a content expert teach students from all over the province. Some subject teachers are in great demand.

Not being tied to a physical building allows traveling athletes, stay at home mothers and full time workers the chance to complete their education.

The number one reason (51.9%) given by those surveyed for taking online courses was in-school-scheduling difficulties. The second most common reason (30.4%) was online learning matched the students learning style. The third most common reason (7.9%) was repeating courses and trying to get a higher mark.
